Our wood and paper ranges are FSC® certified: a guarantee of responsible forest management, traceable to the shelf.
What the FSC® label guarantees the retailer
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certifies that the wood and paper come from responsibly managed forests or controlled sources, with a chain of traceability audited from the forest to the finished product. The label is issued on audit by independent certification bodies. A supplier cannot award it to itself.
For a buyer, that answers two pressures. That of the CSR department first: retailers’ responsible sourcing policies ask for verifiable origin guarantees on at-risk materials, and wood is one of them. That of the consumer next: on a nest box or a wooden toy, the end customer increasingly looks at where the material comes from, and the FSC® logo is one of the few labels they recognise on the shelf.
RDUE traceability, to the plot
The European deforestation regulation (RDUE) requires knowing where the wood comes from, precisely. Not the country, not the region: the plot that was cut, with its coordinates.
On our wood ranges, we can trace this chain. It is deep and demanding work, carried out together with the makers.
The ranges concerned
Certification covers the wood and paper families in our catalogue:
- Garden and biodiversity, the heart of our garden world: bird nest boxes, feeders, hedgehog and bat shelters, insect hotels and towers.
- Wooden toys and items for the children’s world.
- Stationery and paper packaging.
On these families, offering a product dedicated to biodiversity made from wood with no guaranteed origin would be a contradiction, for us as for the retailer that puts it on the shelf.
An argument that also sells on the shelf
On the packaging of a nest box or a feeder, the FSC® logo is a signal the end customer knows and that justifies choosing the product over an equivalent with no label. For the category manager, it is a highlight argument on nature and biodiversity campaigns. For the retailer, one more line in its responsible sourcing record, documented with no extra work on its side.
How we manage it, from sourcing to packaging
The FSC® requirement is handled upstream, not when the packaging is printed. It is built in from the specification, verified during factory sourcing and documented in the product file, with the corresponding chain-of-custody certificates. For a project under your brand, use of the FSC® logo on the product and packaging is framed from the brief, in line with the label’s rules.
And on textiles: GOTS
FSC® covers wood and paper. On textiles, we can support a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification approach if a project calls for it.
Certificates and regulatory registrations
Markindus’s FSC® certificate carries the FSC® licence C154947. It guarantees that the wood in our certified ranges comes from responsibly managed forests. The certificate is provided with the product files.
Markindus is also registered in the ADEME producer registry, with the following unique identifiers:
- FR023913_05SQPX for the WEEE stream (electrical and electronic equipment)
- FR023913_01AQOA for the Packaging stream
- FR023913_06XFSF for the Batteries stream
These identifiers cover extended producer responsibility (EPR) obligations in France: one less point to check for your compliance teams.
